Title & Exam Department:

Our Title and Exam department is staffed by highly experienced experts in title searches and the examination. The department is managed by Mike Thompson with over 20 years in the industry.   Senior Examiner Alfredo “Freddy” Barela is now in his 40th year providing title services. Marco (”Accu-Title”) Ortiz, Senior Examiner has over 20 years in the business. Marco is highly educated, detail oriented and highly professional.  Jennifer Pearson specializes in title report research and preparation. Joyce Arellano prepares title policies and has been in the industry for almost 20 years, formerly as a title examiner. Anthony Rael  delivers the most outstanding customer service ever – he is in our Espanola office.  Christopher Lopez handles recordings at the County Clerk’s office and electronically, plus assists several escrow officers. Victoria Porter sets up new files & processes new orders, starting the search process.  Sharon (”PRINCESS”) Armijo wraps it all up by updating and posting to our title plant. The quality from start to finish is of utmost importance at Southwestern Title.   Our professional team has the track record to instill confidence in the quality of every file we prepare.

Management and Ownership

Attorney and old-time title company executive Tim Vigil is the President and part owner of Southwestern Title.  Tim is a New Mexico native with family roots dating back to the 1700’s, in the village of Cundiyo.  Tim is the grandson of former Governor Edwin L. Mechem. Graduating from NMSU in 1986, Vigil obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree from UNM School of Law in 1989.  Tim began as a runner and worked his way to the top.  Tim has an exemplary reputation as a problem solver and resource for complex title issues. He is married to Lorraine Montoya Vigil, also a New Mexico attorney. Tim and Lorraine’s son, Eric, is the next Eric Clapton; watch for him!

John Fox, Chairman and part owner of Southwestern Title is a native Santa Fean and has practiced law in Santa Fe since 1978.  He practiced with his father, Robert Fox, until 1994 and with the Sommer Fox Law Firm from 1991 to 2001.  John’s legal practice has focused on real estate, title, transactions, exchanges, trusts and estates, and small business.  John is a graduate of Santa Fe’s St. Michael’s High School and serves as Chair of its Board of Trustees.  John believes strongly in supporting local businesses and education.
